A few days ago I asked my followers on social media to let me know what are some things they hate hearing from others when they are going through a depressive episode or experiencing anxiety. I have quite a few hated sayings, and I’ve cut people off for refusing to stop saying them to me, but I wanted to get some other people’s opinions for this post as well.
If you’re having a depressive episode or anxiety, what are things you hate other people saying to you as “advice” *please note that I’ll be using the responses in a blog post and crediting the @‘s so let me know if you don’t want yours included*

“Don’t be so negative” “shut the fuck up” “JUST calm down” “JUST think about something positive” “why do you always do this” “do something about it”

Most people aren’t saying these things in a purposeful act of malice, but impact trumps intent. Just because you didn’t mean for your words to be hurtful, doesn’t negate that they are. Listen to your friends, family, and peers when they tell you these responses to their pain hurt and change how you respond.
