Review: EveryHue Beauty Glow And Go Trio

Review: EveryHue Beauty Glow And Go Trio

I haven’t exactly been searching for new makeup brands to try, but Instagram gets me every time. Especially since this particular product is also the brainchild of a woman on one of the reality shows in my weekly rotation. Everyhueย Beauty is a collaboration of 4 women, one being Giselle Bryant from Bravo’s The Real Housewives of the Potomac. Granted I don’t really like her personalityย much, but that’s an entirely different discussion, I do appreciate her recognizing a hole in the beauty market and collaborating with other women to try and fill it. I’m not biracial, lighter skinned, or even in the olive undertone family but I have heard women in these categories complain about their selection of drugstore beauty products. While it appears that they have a good selection of drugstore beauty to pick from, the actual color matching is off. Yes, the medium shade ranges are more widely available but do they actually work on these women and non-women? Often times they don’t because while yes the shade may be close, the undertones are way off. The beauty industry just doesn’t try very hard when it comes to formulating diverse shades once you leave the “fair” end of the shade chart.

Dark skinned Black women have been the most vocal about this for decades and it’s why we are finally seeing companies recognizing our dollar is powerful, but they haven’t heard or cared to hear from those who are not either “porcelain” or “deep mocha.” This left a hole in the market for fair skinned Black women, Middle Eastern, and South Asian women. That’s why I was very interested in EveryHue Beauty, even though it isn’t exactly marketed towards me. This is the statement from their “About” section: “EveryHue Beauty was created to meet the needs of all modern women while superserving the multiethnic woman. We offer wearable shades while doubling down on warmer hues to meet the makeup needs of all women. ”

Now onto the actual products I tried. I had to order them online because the Target near me doesn’t carry them in store. I personally hate buying foundations online because no matter how many swatches you look at and descriptions you read there is still a high probability for error and that’s just what happened. I order the 2 products I was most interested in. The Tinted Medium Coverage Moisturizer in Mocha and the Glow and Go Pressed Powder Trio in Gingersnap. I tried the tinted moisturizer first and was so sad that the shade was too light for me and I had to return it. The Glow and Go Trio I didn’t hate, but I also didn’t love it.

The Glow and Go Trio in Gingersnap is comprised of a blush, bronzer, and highlight shade. It is supposed to be for an everyday subtle glow, however, I found it to be very shimmery for an everyday look. The blushย was particularly shimmery. While I love the actual shade and it’s pigmentation, the shimmer is a bit too much, especially since the trio includes a highlighter already. If you are someone who struggles with skin texture, wrinkles, or large pores I wouldn’t recommend this palette. I would say the blush and highlighter are closer in payoff to a glitter than a shimmer. If EveryHue Beauty could change the formulation to use finer light reflecting particles I could see this working as an everyday product to give you a sunkissed glow. But as it is, it comes off as childish and kind of cheap. Like I said before, the actual shades are beautiful, it’s just the harsh glittery finish that makes this not very wearable for a lot of people. The bronzer is nice but is too light for my skin tone, so I don’t use it.

My overall takeaways:

Pros:
  • Reasonably priced. Foundation- $18.99 and Glow and Go Trio- $14.99
  • Great option for women with medium toned skin who have a hard time finding shades that match their undertones.
  • Beautiful shades of blush and highlighter
Cons:
  • The Glow and Go Trio is far too shimmery for daytime/ business and for those with textured skin.
  • The bronzer wasn’t dark enough for my skintone
  • Depending on where you live, you will have to order online.

At this point, I can’t say anything about the brand as a whole other than I hope they improve the formulas the Glow and Go Trio. I still would like to try their pressed setting powders and concealer/corrector duos, but I’m in no rush.
